A Pumper (also known as an "Engine"), is basically a fire truck that carries hose and pumps water. In Independence our Pumpers also carry 500 gallons of water and several different types of equipment needed for all types of emergencies.
The two Independence Rescue Units are 1 ton pick-up trucks that carry equipment for special rescue situations such as fires, vehicle extrication and high angle rescue. These Rescue Units do not carry water or hoses for extinguishing fires.
